Inu claims section 57 of ICT Act not contrary to HR, constitution

Claims Inu

Amid concern and criticisms over section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology Act, Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu yesterday said it was not contrary to human rights and the constitution.

"Those who raised questions about the section 57 of ICT Act did not say anything about its ambiguousness," he told a press briefing at the PID conference room.

He said work for enacting a new law to prevent cybercrimes was going on and a decision would be taken over its sections.

On protests by some ruling party leaders and an MP over the killings of the party men in recent incidents of crossfire, Inu said, "There are over 300 MPs and over 1,000 leaders and activists of Awami League across the country.

"Among them, one MP might react to it and it is quite natural but the extrajudicial killing is not the formula of the Awami League-led grand alliance government."

On BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's recent call on the government to open the "closed door of besieged democracy", he said the door of democracy was open and democracy was not confined. Actually, the militants are confined here, he said.

The door of democracy did not and will never allow war criminals, militants, arsonists and killers to enter, he said.
