Over 200 shanties burned down in fire at Dhaka’s Maniknagar

Over 200 shanties were gutted in the fire that broke out at Dhaka's Maniknagar area this afternoon.

The fire started around 3:20pm at a tin-shed house at Cumilla Potti area. Seven firefighting units brought the blaze under control around 4:45pm, and was completely doused around 6:15pm, said Lima Khanam, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters.

She added that more than 200 shanties were burnt down in the fire.

Though locals said that the fire originated from an earth oven, fire service officials say the cause of the fire is being investigated.
