DU halls to open after May 17: VC
In accordance with the recent decision by the education ministry, Dhaka University dormitories will not open and no major examinations will be held before May 17, VC Professor Akhtaruzzaman said today.
The decision was taken by the university's academic council in a meeting this morning, VC said while talking to reporters following the meeting.
Students have to get vaccinated before moving into the dormitories, the council decided.
But, if anybody cannot get inoculated due to physical condition, their case will be considered as per doctor's prescription, he said.
The council also decided to complete giving the first dose of vaccine to all the students and teachers of the university within April 17.
Regarding the examination dates of the seven DU-affiliated colleges, the VC said that Pro Vice-Chancellor (education) Prof ASM Maksud Kamal will hold a meeting regarding the issue in the evening.
"The agitating students will soon hold a press briefing to respond to the academic council's decision," said one of the protesters, Tanvir Alam Chowdhury.
The DU students earlier demanded that all residential halls be opened by the end of February so they can stay at the halls from March 1.
