DNCC finds mosquito larvae in 94 houses on first day of drive

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) today found Aedes mosquito larvae in 94 houses and establishments on the first day of a 10-day combing operation to destroy breeding grounds of mosquitoes.
The DNCC mobile court also fined owners of 16 houses and establishments around Tk 2.90 lakh for the presence of larvae and warned owners of other houses.
The 10-day combing operation began at all 54 wards under the city corporation area simultaneously to protect city dwellers from mosquitoes, said a press release of the DNCC.
The DNCC team visited at least 13,825 houses and establishments during the drive, added the release.
Stagnant water and breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes were found at 8,713 establishments including buildings that are under construction in the city.
The drive will run from 9:00am to noon every day except Friday by dividing a ward into ten sectors and a sector into 10 sub-sectors.
Larvae of Aedes mosquito were found in abandoned tyres, buckets, flower tubs, bottles, water-meters, garages, water-tanks, plastic containers, abandoned commodes, coconut shells, broken pots, basement and the space between two houses, said an official of DNCC.
