Bangladeshi UN peacekeeper dies in Central African Republic road crash
A member of Bangladesh Army working in UN peacekeeping mission in Central African Republic was killed and his 12 fellow peacekeepers were injured in a road accident on April 9.
Lance Corporal Md Nazrul Islam, 32, died from head injuries in a hospital, said a press release issued by Inter Service Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) yesterday.
Army officials in Bangladesh said a flatbed truck lost control and hit the vehicle, which was carrying Nazrul and other peacekeepers, at Bouli, around 80km off the country's capital Bangui.
The contingent was going to conduct a road crash rescue operation but in a strange turn of fate they met the fatal accident, said an army official wishing anonymity.
The body of Nazrul, son of late Nizamuddin of Pabna, will be brought home soon, said the press release. The wounded peacekeepers are now undergoing treatment at a hospital supervised by the UN.
Bangladesh Army has expressed grave shock over the death.
