Student groups hold symbolic coffin procession at DU for July Uprising justice
Jatiya Chhatra Shakti today held a solidarity rally and a symbolic coffin procession at Dhaka University (DU), demanding justice for the killings in the July Uprising.
The procession began in front of the university's central mosque after Juma prayers and ended at the Raju Memorial Sculpture, where leaders of several student organisations joined a rally.
The rally demanded trial of those responsible for the killings during the Awami League government's tenure and punishment for its collaborators.
Addressing the rally, Jatiya Chhatra Shakti President Zahid Ahsan said students from different ideological backgrounds remained united in demanding justice for the July killings.
Nahiduzzaman Shipon, general secretary of DU unit Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, said those responsible for the crackdown on protesters during the uprising must be brought to justice without delay.
Paying tribute to Abu Sayed, Wasim, Mugdho, Rafi and others killed during the movement, Shipon said students would remain united against "fascist forces" to uphold democracy.
Leaders of Jatiya Chhatra Shakti, Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad and Islami Chhatra Shibir also addressed the rally.
