Now City Bank suspends card transactions with selected e-commerce merchants

Following suit of Brac Bank, Bank Asia and Dhaka Bank, local banking financial institution City Bank also cancelled card transactions with e-commerce platforms today.

However, City did not mention the names of the e-commerce companies against which the bank has imposed the suspension.

Some clients of City informed The Daily Star that they received texts from the bank regarding the suspension.

"Transactions at selected e-commerce merchants are temporarily suspended with immediate effect using any City Bank card," the text read.

Meanwhile, the commerce ministry earlier in the day agreed in principles that the local e-commerce companies will not get the payment until and unless the goods are delivered to the buyers.

The payment gateways--including banks and mobile financial services providers--will clear the payments to the e-commerce companies once the buyers give go-ahead after receiving the goods they ordered, according to the new rule.

Despite repeated attempts, The Daily Star could not reach the City Bank for comments on transaction suspension.
