Excelerate energy to supply 34 lakh MMBU LNG at Tk 314 crore
US-based Excelerate Energy LP is going to supply 34 lakh MMBTU (million British thermal units) LNG to state-run Petrobangla at Tk 314 crore, according to a decision of the Cabinet committee on purchase today.
The committee also approved a Tk 78 crore project of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission to procure telecom monitoring system from TKC Inc, Canada.
Terming the project as an 'important project' that will ensure the security of the users, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said this project has been taken to establish a digital regulatory monitoring system.
The minister was speaking a virtual press briefing after the meeting of cabinet committee on purchase.
Addressing the briefing, the finance minister said it would be possible to check money laundering by taking three steps including enacting new laws, creating an environment for investment and bringing the culprits to book by resolving pending money laundering cases.
Money laundering will decline to a great extent when 15 laws including new and amendment will come into force, said the minister, who expected that the laws would be passed in the parliament in the next six months.
A system needs to be developed to identify the money launderers so that they can be brought under the legal procedures, he said adding that many cases in connection with money laundering remain pending for long.
If those cases can be resolved speedily and the culprits get punished the trend would be declined, he said.
