Mustafa Jabbar has been elected as the president for 2016-2019 of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), the top trade body for software and information technology enabled services companies.

The association also elected Russell T Ahmed of Team Creative as senior vice president, M Rashidul Hasan of Systech Digital Ltd as vice president and Farhana A Rahman of UY Systems Ltd as vice president.

Other elected members of the association's executive council are Uttam Kumar Paul of Best Business Bond Ltd, Mostafizur Rahman Sohel of Advanced ERP BD Ltd, Syed Almas Kabir of Metronet Bangladesh Ltd, Sonia Bashir Kabir of Microsoft Bangladesh and Riyad SA Husain of Magnito Digital.

The members will serve the association as directors, according to the statement.

The election took place at the BASIS office in the capital on June 25, the association said in a statement yesterday.

Another election was held yesterday at the BASIS office to distribute the roles among the elected members.

“We had declared in our election manifesto that we will work for the country, domestic software and the ITES sector,” said Jabbar, who is also the owner of Ananda Computers.

“We will work towards freeing the sector from dominance of foreign companies. We will move forward with this target.”

The outgoing executive council will soon handover the responsibilities to the newly elected ones, the association said in the statement.
