Woman dies as truck’s gas cylinder explodes in Dhaka’s Hazaribagh

A woman died after gas cylinder of a truck exploded in Dhaka's Hazaribagh Beribandh area early today.

The deceased Salma Begum (30), a labourer, was on the truck at the time.

The incident occurred around 3:00am at RS Filling Station. The woman was on the back of the truck when an employee of the station was filling the cylinder, police said.

Suddenly, the cylinder exploded and she was blown away along with parts of the truck, leaving her critically injured, said Zafar Hossain, a sub-inspector of Hazaribagh Police Station.

Police rushed her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead around 4:30am, he said.

The driver and other labourers on the vehicle, who were standing nearby, were unhurt, he said.

Police seized the truck. The body was sent to hospital morgue for autopsy.
