Teesta river water receding in Lalmonirhat

The water level of the Teesta river have receded in Lalmonirhat.
The river water was flowing 25cm below the danger level at Dalia Point in Teesta Barrage area of Hatibandha upazila from 6:00am today.
Shunil Kumar, executive engineer of Water Development Board in Lalmonirhat, confirmed the development to our local correspondent this morning.
Shunil Kumar said the water level of the Teesta has decreased rapidly due to no rainfall and onrush of water from the upstream India. The Teesta water crossed the danger level and flooded the low-lying areas along the banks of Teesta shoal and char areas last morning.
The river water has started receding from the flooded areas from last night. For now, there is no fear of floods in Lalmonirhat, he said.
Meanwhile, Kurigram Water Development Board WDB Executive Engineer Abdullah Al Mamun told The Daily Star that the water of major rivers Brahmaputra, Dudhkumar, Teesta, Dharla and Gangadhar in the district was flowing far below the danger level. There is no threat of flood situation for now. However, erosion has occurred at various places.
