Locals, repairing embankment in Koyra, throw mud at MP when he arrives
Agitated locals threw mud and chunks of soil at Khulna-6 (Paikgachha-Koyra) constituency lawmaker Md Akhtaruzzaman when he went to visit the Cyclone Yaas affected area today.
The incident occurred this morning when the locals were repairing an embankment on the Kopotakkho river voluntarily as it was damaged due to the cyclone.
When a trawler carrying MP Akhtaruzzaman reached Dashhalia area in Moharajpur union, the people, who were repairing the embankment, started throwing mud targeting the trawler.
The lawmaker left with the trawler but later returned to Dashhalia and joined locals in the repair work.
When contacted, MP Akhtauzzaman told The Daily Star that "it is natural to be agitated as they have no food and river water entered their houses. People will express their anger when they are in pain."
He added, "I have told them that since last year there was no development work due to coronavirus situation. This type of development project would be done through tenders. If this development project gets approved, their problems would be solved."
"It is not correct that I left the scene. I have joined and worked with them," he said.
