Bangabandhu bridge sets new record in transport movement, toll collection

Bangabandhu bridge has achieved a new record in transport movement and collecting tolls from vehicles in 24 hours till 6:00am today.

The highest number of vehicles – 52,730 – crossed the bridge during the period and Tk 2.99 crore toll has been received, said Ahsanul Kabir Pavel, executive engineer of the site office of Bangladesh Bridge Authority.

The executive engineer told The Daily Star that the toll plaza received Tk 2.90 crore from 49,00 vehicles during the last Eid-ul-Azha, setting a record.

Although long-distance transport movement was suspended, a huge number of private cars, microbuses, trucks, pick-up vans plied the bridge, the engineer said.

Vehicles bound for 16 northern and five south-western districts run on Bangabandhu bridge, which is known as the gateway to the 21 districts.
