Udichi celebrates golden jubilee

The three-day Mymensingh divisional theatre festival organised by Mymensingh Udichi Shilpi Goshthi began at the local Shilpakala Academy auditorium on Thursday evening (January 25).

Three plays-“Mora” written by Shubhankar Chakraborty and directed by Shib Shankar Karua of Udichi Sherpur Zila Sangsad ; “Bou” scripted by Mannan Hira and directed by Santosh Kumar Rajbhar from Udichi Jamalpur Zila Sangsad; and “Manush” by written by Monir Chowdhury and directed by Sanjoy Sarker Hira of Udichi Netrakona Zila Sangsad were staged at the inauguration. The event commenced with the slogan “Dhrohe Bidrohe Biplobe, Gari Biswa Saptasure”.

Other plays of the festival are-“Dik Chinyahin” by Udichi Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) Sangsad; “Post Master” by Udichi Kishoreganj Zila Sangsad; “Kamolakanter Jobanbondi” by Udichi Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) Sangsad; and “Special Train” by Udichi Mymensingh Zila Sangsad.

Drama artistes of Udichi's different units including Shib Shankar Karua, Fazlul Karim Bhanu, Rakhal Biswas, Abdus Salam Ripon, Mrinal Kanti Dutta and Arun Bhattacharya Nayan were honoured on the inaugural day of the festival.

A discussion on “Udichi's Suborno Joyanti: Prapti O Prattyasha” was held at the opening session.

Earlier, eminent cultural personality and Language Movement veteran Kamal Lohani inaugurated the festival which marked the Golden Jubilee of Udichi. Deputy Commissioner of Mymensingh Md Khalilur Rahman was the chief guest at the session.

Secretary of Udichi Central Unit Jamshed Anwar Tapon; and Dr Prodip Chandra Kar; convener of the celebration committee Abdus Salam Ripon; its member secretary Sarwar Kamal Robin delivered welcome addresses at the event. Prof Jatin Sarker, chairman of the celebration committee presided over the event.

The speakers were of the view that Udichi started its journey on October 29 in 1968 and has contributed much to the cultural movement of the country during its 50-year journey.

Udichi will continue its socio-cultural movement in the interest of locals in days to come, hoped the speakers.
