Photo exhibition against border killing underway at DU
A photo exhibition, protesting border killings, began near the anti-terrorism Raju memorial sculpture at University of Dhaka (DU) on March 6.
Magazine Kantatar organised the exhibition, commemorating International Women's Day and in remembrance of Felani Khatun, who was shot dead by the Indian Border Security Force while crossing the India-Bangladesh border on January 7, 2011. A collection of photographs by eminent photographer Parvez Ahmed Roni are on display at the exhibition.
The organisers also extended their support to DU student Nasir Abdullah, who has been sitting in for over 40 consecutive days on the Raju memorial sculpture, protesting the killings of Bangladeshis along borders. Nasir, a marketing student who began the protest on January 25, intends to continue the sit-in until the government pressurises their Indian counterpart to stop the killings immediately. At least 15 Bangladeshis were killed on the border by the Indian Border Security Force personnel in January this year, according to media reports.
The exhibition will conclude on March 17.
