Comedian Anis passes away
Comedian Anis won the hearts of many with his brilliant acting in television, films, as well as theatre. The actor passed away at the age of 78, on Sunday at 11 pm at his residence in Tikatuli.
His Namaz-e-Janaza was held yesterday at the Tikatuli Jame Masjid. His body was then taken to BFDC, where a second Namaz-e-Janaza was offered in the presence of media personalities including the likes of Alamgir, Omar Sani and Misha Sawdagor, among others. Different organisations including Bangladesh Film Producers Distributors Association, Bangladesh Shilpi Samity, and Bangladesh Directors Association, also paid respects to the comedian.
Comedian Anis was born in 1940 in Ballavpur village in Feni. He was buried in his village home yesterday. The actor started his career in 1960 with the film Bishkanya. However, the film was never released. After the release of his first film Ei To Jibon, directed by Zillur Rahman, his journey in the industry took a great turn. His notable works include Padma Nadir Majhi, Mala, Jorina Sundori, and Modhu Mala, among many. He was known for his performance in the popular television show Ityadi. He also, played the role of Nawab Siraj ud-Daulah on stage.
“We have done quite a few films together,” says actor Uzzal. “He would always look after his co-actors and would check up on them regularly. He would also help out artistes financially, but would never speak of it.”
Another one of his co-stars, Anjana, feels that losing a legendary actor like Anis has marked an end of an era. “Whenever I was unhappy on the sets, he would make some witty remarks to make me laugh. He was a very cheerful person,” she adds.
“I am disheartened by the news,” says actor Rozina. “We lost few gems of this industry recently. Anis was a brilliant artiste and a humble human being. I hope that he rests in peace.”
