Sabina Yasmin reveals her favourite song on her birthday

September 4 marks the birthday of the legendary National Award winning singer, Sabina Yasmin.

In a conversation with The Daily Star, the queen of melody revealed her favourite song and how she feels blessed to be loved by all to this date. 

When asked about her favourite song, the songstress was silent for a while on the other end of the phone. Breaking the silence, the singer replied that, "It is truly difficult to say which is my favourite song but the song "Shob Kota Janala Khule Dao Nah" holds a special place within my heart."

"Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul composed the music while the song was penned down by noted lyricist Nazrul Islam Babu. The melody of the song is such that its effect still lingers all over my heart. While recording the song, I became so overwhelmed with emotions that I could not hold my tears," added the singer.

The veteran artiste also emphasised how one of her classic song acted as a turning point in her career.

"Written by Gazi Mazharul Anwar and tuned by Gazi Mazharul Anwar, "Shudhu Gaan Geyei Parichay" acted as a breakthrough in my career. This song brought me immense popularity and fame, and since then I never had to look back," the singer reminisced.

The renowned singer revealed to The Daily Star how she plans on celebrating her birthday today.

"Some of my friends and my daughter will come to my house and I plan on cooking for them today. I really don't have any plan to go outside as I just want to have a fun time conversing with them all." the singer added. 

The National award-winning singer became emotional on talking about her journey as an artiste.

"As soon as my birthday comes, my mind tends to wander that how as an artiste, I have no dreams left to be unfulfilled and how my life has been perfect till date. I am so fortunate that I was able to receive so much love from everyone all throughout my life," the singer added.

While speaking about the grim coronavirus situation in our country, the singer expressed how she spends most of her time at the house.

"Due to the ongoing coronavirus situation, I mostly stay at my house and do all my household chores by myself. I listen to my favourite artistes and go on with my regular routine at home," the singer said.

When asked about her favourite artiste, the singer named quite a few popular names in the music industry.

"As a singer, I listen to all kinds of songs. However, I am an avid fan of renowned artistes such as Mehdi Hassan, Shyamal Mitra and Mohammad Rafi."

Born in 1954, Sabina Yasmin has contributed immensely in the music arena in the last five decades with her countless lists of impeccable songs.

She has won 13 National Film Awards for Playback and was bestowed with the prestigious Ekushey Padak award in 1984 and the Swadhinata Puraskar in 1996. In 2012, she was conferred with the 'Bangla Academy' honorary fellowship award.

Sabina Yasmin's list of popular songs include "Shudhu Gann Geye Porichoy", "Jonmo Theke Jolchi Maa G", "Ami Rojonigandha Fuler Moto Gondo Biliye Jay, "Chiti Diyo Proti Din," "Osru Diye Lekha Ey Gaan," "Dhukho Bhalobeshe Prem er Khela," "Ey Shukher Ney Kono Shimana," "Borsher Prothom Din ey," and "Amar Bhanga Ghor ey Bhangha Chala", among countless others.
