A man who influenced generations
Ever smiling, ever optimistic – that is how fellow artistes and fans remember the legendary Fakir Alamgir. The Ekushey Padak awardee was synonymous with the Gano Sangeet- the songs of the masses. He stood up for the perceived weak, and gave them hope through his music. The legacy of Fakir Alamgir lies far beyond his melodious creations. He was a freedom fighter, an icon, and a symbol of the independence of Bangladesh itself. The beloved artiste passed away at the Capital's United Hospital at 10:56 pm on June 23, after fighting Covid-19 and suffering from a heart attack while in ventilation. Yesterday, even amidst the Covid restrictions, fans and well-wishers flocked the Central Shaheed Minar to see their favourite artiste for one last time. Today, we remember the great artiste through some of his memorable pictures.
