Bangla Radio FM 95.2 - Bringing diversity

In conversation with Shelu Barua
Bangla Radio

Bangla Radio FM 95.2, a Reza Group concern, has begun commercial operations. With an aim to promote Bangla music and its roots, Bangla Radio has drawn up a clear strategy.

Unlike other channels, to go with the name it has decided to only broadcast Bangla music and related shows. Moreover, Bangla or a dialect of Bangla has been fixed for the radio jockeys to use instead of code-switch between Bangla and English, while connecting with the listeners.

Spokesperson of Bangla Radio, noted singer Shelu Barua told The Daily Star, “Our motto is to work with Bangla songs and most importantly Bengali culture. We believe that the radio plays a vital role in this direction and we can provide listeners a different flavour to their musical tastes. We are even planning to work with the new generation along with veteran singers.”

On the channel's upcoming shows he added, “We have plans to celebrate the birth and death anniversaries of prominent and legendary artistes. For example to celebrate Nazrul Jayanti, Bangla Radio has broadcast National Poet's songs and related shows, throughout the day. Not just this, our plan is to celebrate every artiste in the Bangla music industry. We would like to highlight them, and to do this we will have special programmes, interviews and lots more."

Most of the channels are slanted towards upcoming stars and this is where Bangla Radio breaks new ground. Our dictum is to broadcast shows for both the elderly and younger generation, so that everyone has the opportunity to explore all the genres of Bangla Music. We want our listeners to know that, not only we have Rabindranath Tagore or Kazi Nazrul Isalm we have many more talented and experienced artistes than they could ever have imagined,” he concluded.
