'Debi' starts its journey in theatres
In the wake of rock legend Ayub Bachchu's demise, Debi started its journey in theatres with a dimmed spirit. Chanchal Chowdhury, who played Misir Ali's character in the film, paid his respects to the legend on a Facebook post recently and hoped the best for the film's future. In Barisal, the afternoon show of Debi started with fans singing Shei Tumi.
A few days ago, in an interview with The Daily Star, Jaya Ahsan expressed her anticipation for Debi's release. She said she wants people from all walks of life to enjoy the film. Listening to fans from all across the country rave about the film post its release, it seems as though her wish is indeed coming true.
Since Debi was an adaptation of Humayun Ahmed's novel of the same title, the beloved author's fans did not want to miss the chance to watch the film as soon as it released. One of those fans, Meher Nigar Bhuiyan, a senior Programme Manager in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade at the Australian High Commission, had read the novel at least 4-5 times in the past and believes that the makers behind Debi did justice to the story.
“To be very honest, I was skeptical before going to the theatre,” said Meher Nigar. “But I left the theatre in awe of the film. The dialogues, the twists and turns of the novel were perfectly brought to life.”
Moviegoers who had not read the book beforehand were also thoroughly captivated throughout the film. An audience member named Emran Khan, Associate Vice President at FCB Bitopi, said, “I never read the book. I got to know Misir Ali's story from the movie and the suspense kept me intrigued.”
