Future in Films - 9th Int'l Children's Film Fest begins tomorrow

The ninth edition of International Children's Film Festival Bangladesh is all set to take place from January 23-29 in Dhaka, Sylhet and Rajshahi. With the theme “Future in Frames”, the event will run simultaneously at 15 venues in the three major cities.

The inauguration ceremony will take place at Shawkat Osman Auditorium of Central Public Library tomorrow at 4pm. Finance Minister AMA Muhit will attend the inauguration ceremony as chief guest, while Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor will be the special guest.  

In Dhaka, the other festival venues are National Museum, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Alliance Francaise de Dhaka, and Daffodil International University.

Children's Film Society Bangladesh is organising the festival to open a new horizon of cinema for Bangladeshi children and give them exposure to the culture and tradition of other countries through films. Through this festival, children will have basic ideas on films and their role in building awareness on social issues to build a better society.

Over 150 films from 30 countries -- including host Bangladesh, Argentina, Chile, Iran, Taiwan, Croatia, Ecuador, India, Spain, Thailand, USA, Switzerland, Ireland, Indonesia, England and Ethiopia -- will be screened at the fest.

The categories in the festival are: Films Made by Bangladeshi Children, Young Talent Award, Social Film Award, International Competition and Bangladesh Panorama.

There are also a number of awards in the international category: Best Film, Best Director and Best Short Film for international category. And for Bangladeshi children there are Best Film, 2nd Best Film, 3rd Best Film and two Special Awards.

Besides film screening, a seminar, two workshops and two interactive sessions with prominent guests are also a part of the festival.

The concluding and award giving ceremony will take place at the main hall of National Museum on January 29.
