A group art exhibition concluded on October 8 at Zainul Gallery-1, Faculty of Fine Art (FFA), University of Dhaka. The show featured artworks in diverse media by fifth-batch students of all the departments of FFA. The exhibition, titled Celebration of Ponchom, was held marking the 20th anniversary of the fifth batch.

Rashed Kamal Russell's mixed media work “Amra” represents a happy family roaming around untainted natural settings while Shamima Sultana Dipu's mixed media work showcases a woman with shapla flowers.

Urmila Sukla beautifully depicts fallen leaves on cloth. She also attached real fallen leaves on her mixed media work titled “Jhorapata”. Sujata Sen's watercolour landscape is beautiful while Saida Monira Hasan Payel seeks hidden meaning in the mystery of nature. Jesmin Akter depicted colourful and geometric forms to evoke a feeling of imprisonment in her acrylic work.

Using black and red, Sharmin Huq Sangeeta captures some moments of a day in her mixed media work. Mohammed Sharear Alam portrays a gloomy face on acrylic. Mohammad Tanvir Islam's oil, a still life, is well-balanced regarding composition while Suman Basak's “Nature” (oil on canvas) is a fine depiction of land and water body.

Shokhina Akter Shimu's still life (“Bunon”) is an artistic beauty. Sanjiv Kanti Das, using digital media, depicts a poster delineating an outstanding architectural heritage of Bangladesh -- Kantajew Temple. Shibananda Adhikary Biplob's illustration (in acrylic) urges all to save the Sundarbans, the largest mangrove forest of the world.

Namira Islam Hashmi has beautifully done an illustration using mixed media to symbolise recent terror attacks across the globe. The artist symbolically depicts bloodshed on horrible headlines of world-famous newspapers, and at the same time portrays pigeons, a symbol of peace, to shun the deadly path of extremism.

Among other participating artists, Vadreshu Rita upholds the theme “Stop Killing” in her digital illustration, Mithun Sarkar portrays love between parrots (Woodcut Colour Print), Mohammad Golam Mostofa shows a hunt by the army in his etching aquatint, Tushar Kanti Das portrays unity in his ceramic work and Dr. Pintu Chandra Deb portrays a harmonious couple using the wood relief technique.
