Bangladeshi art captivates Omani audience

Society for Promotion of Bangladesh Art (SPBA), in collaboration with Bank Sohar International, Oman, recently hosted a week-long art exhibition of seven Bangladeshi artists in the Omani capital city of Muscat. The main objective of the exhibition was to showcase the art and culture of Bangladesh to the people of Oman. It was attended by a large number of art enthusiasts, eminent businesspersons, diplomats, media personalities and art critics.

The exhibition titled Abstracts and Reality was inaugurated by Sheikh Saad al Saadi, Minister of Sports, Oman and Mohammed Alardhi, Chairman of Bank Sohar International. Maqbool Ali Sultan, Advisor to the Sultan of Oman, and the Bangladesh Ambassador to Oman, Golam Sarwar, were present among others at the inaugural ceremony. The exhibition was curated by Elthem B Kabir, Founder-Chairman of SPBA. He was also present at the opening ceremony.

Dynamic works with bold colours and composition on large canvas dominated the exhibition. Extraordinary works by eminent Bangladeshi artists Monirul Islam, Mohammed Eunus, Kanak Chanpa Chakma, Mohammed Iqbal, Tajuddin Ahmed, Jahangir Hossain and Maksuda Iqbal Nipa were on display at the Bait Muzna Gallery in Muscat, the most reputed gallery in Oman.

Art enthusiasts in Oman were mesmerised by the Bangladeshi artworks at the exhibit, the first of its kind held in Oman. “We are extremely impressed to see the energy, passion and depth of the Bangladeshi artists’ works. Their techniques and play of vibrant colours on large canvases are exemplary,” said an Omani visitor at the exhibition.
