Several artists of the 1979 batch of the Faculty of Fine Art (FFA) are holding a weeklong group painting exhibition titled “Phirey Dekha” at Zainul Gallery of FFA, University of Dhaka (DU). Renowned artists Professor Rafiqun Nabi, Professor Abul Barq Alvi, Shahid Kabir and Shishir Bhattacharya, also the acting Dean of FFA, DU, inaugurated the exhibition on January 15.

Hosted by artist, poet and critic Zahid Mustafa, noted artists Mokhlesur Rahman, Selim Ahmed, Mini Karim and Professor Lalarukh Selim [on behalf of the batch 1979] spoke at the inaugural ceremony.

The exhibition, dedicating to the five untimely-demised artists of the batch, is featuring some 50 artworks by 29 artists. The participating artists have displayed their diverse works on media like watercolour on paper and canvas, acrylic, mixed media, sculptures made from wood, cement and steel, ceramic paintings and aesthetic decorative works on porcelain.

Nature with her varied elements, landscape, folk themed works, portraits, abstract and feminine face and grace are the dominating subjects of the paintings on display while the showcasing sculptures have conspicuous connotations of contemporary approach and language.

However, the exhibition would have been more meaningful if there was enough space in between the displayed works.

The show, opening from 12noon to 7pm daily, will conclude on January 21.
