Channel i hosts “Humayun Mela”
Since his tragic passing, Channel i has been hosting a special fair every year for Bangladesh's favourite novelist, screenwriter and film director Humayun Ahmed marking his birth anniversary. The television network's courtyard became the premise for “Humayun Mela” yesterday in commemoration of the late author's 69th birthday.
The event was launched at 5pm by setting off yellow balloons into the air. The opening ceremony was attended by Faridur Reza Sagar, actor Syed Hasan Imam, thespian Ataur Rahman, writer Ali Imam, as well as the celebrated author's son Nuhash Humayun, and his publishers. The inauguration was followed by dance presentations, as well as musical performances by Chandra Ray, Selim Chowdhury, and more.
However, the main attraction of the fair was Humayun Ahmed's ardent fans, who attended the programme in costume as his famous characters Himu and Rupa. Crowds milled about the premises until the event's conclusion at 7pm, many decked in yellow panjabis to honour the popular character Himu's favourite.
The event also drew visitors to the stalls where books of the author, as well as CDs containing his plays and films were on display.
“Humayun Mela” is organised by Channel i, and sponsored by ACI Pure Salt.
