ACC to serve notice on Ruhal, 2 MPs
The Anti-Corruption Commission yesterday decided to issue notices seeking wealth statements from former health minister AFM Ruhal Haque, two ruling Awami League lawmakers and their family members following allegations of illegal wealth accumulation.
The decision was taken at the commission's regular meeting, said Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya, ACC public relations officer.
Notices will be served on Ruhal Haque, his wife Ila Haque and son Ziaul Haque; Patukhali-4 lawmaker and former state minister for water resources Mahbubur Rahman and his wife Priti Haider; and Rajshahi-4 lawmaker Enamul Haque and his wife Tohura Haque, he added.
The anti-graft body had earlier quizzed Ruhal, Mahbubur and Enamul in this connection.
Following newspaper reports, the ACC had launched a probe into corruption allegations against seven ministers and lawmakers of the ninth parliament on January 22.
The rest are former state minister for housing and public affairs Abdul Mannan Khan, former MP Abdul Zabbar, and lawmakers of the 10th parliament Abdur Rahman Bodi and Aslamul Haque.
Huge discrepancies were found in their wealth statements, which they had submitted to the Election Commission last year, in comparison to their 2008 statements.
As per a Supreme Court verdict in 2007, the Election Commission has to collect eight particulars about lawmaker aspirants, including their wealth statements, and make those public so that voters can know about their prospective representatives.
