House of NUBDians: A platform of hope for National University students
House of NUBDians is a platform dedicated solely to the students of the colleges under the National University, Bangladesh. In terms of recruitment and other facilities, the students of National University are generally neglected. The prime focus of this platform is to work for the self-development of the students of National University.
The Founder and CEO of the platform, Palash Hossain, shared, "The students of National University are measured in a derogatory manner from other students of public and private universities. The lack of self-confidence among the students is the main reason for establishing this platform."
Inspired by his elder brother Akram's struggles, Palash started the platform in July 2020. "As there are no specific names for the students of National University, we named our platform 'NUBDians' so that all students of National University can feel comfortable; the name is given by our advisor, Khaled Mahmud," says Palash.
Every Sunday and Wednesday, there are online job preparation classes, with students from all over Bangladesh. Khaled Mahmud, Associate Professor, Institute of Business Administration, University of Dhaka, Syed Alamgir, Managing Director, Akij Group, Arif Zaman, Dean, Canadian University, Renowned Cricketers Mehidy Miraz, Ashraful, Shahriar Nafees, and Jahanara Alam among other prominent personalities took part in different sessions.
The platform offers courses on business, marketing, business entrepreneurship, higher education abroad, and exam and skill development, among other topics. Every Thursday, House of NUBDians organises sessions on language proficiency, marketing, business entrepreneurship, job interview, and CV writing among other subjects, taught by renowned teachers and corporate icons.
A huge number of students of National University often suffer from lack of self-confidence, leadership skills, and communication skills. To encourage them and boost their confidence, the platform organises regular sessions on stories of successful NUBDians.
In one year, more than 72,000 students joined the platform, with 13 campus teams and 2 national competitions to their name. They arranged 113 online classes and 11 training sessions for enhancing self-development skills of the members. The platform already collaborated with four organisations to extend their job placement facilities, offering a chance for the students of National Universities.
The State Minister of the ICT Division, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, was present during the one-year anniversary celebration programme, held virtually. The minister wholeheartedly appreciated the initiative and committed to stand by the platform, moving forward.
"We want to create an environment where any students or alumni of national University will proudly introduce themselves as NUBDians," expresses Palash. "Starting from Job and other fields of applied education, the students and alumni of National University should get equal opportunity and we are determined to create that level playing field for them."
Palash is a graduate of Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET), and he completed his post-graduation from the Institute of Business Administration, University of Dhaka.
