Gregorian Alumni reorganises under new leadership, pledges to support alma mater
The Gregorian Alumni Society has been reorganised to represent St Gregory's High School.
It was decided at an informal gathering held in Dhaka recently, according to a press release.
Many amongst this group are the founder members of the original TGA (The Gregorian Association) which was found in 1985. The TGA was a vibrant organisation that actively participated in various social and academic activities supporting the mission and aspirations of the school.
"TGA, much to the disappointment of the major part of the alumni, had lost its vision and its integrity as it became a 'privately run' unit under the control of a handful of individuals," claimed many disillusioned Gregorians.
The need for a legitimate newly revamped organisation was never felt more necessary. Many senior as well as junior alumni wanted a change. They called for transparency, purpose and accountability, the press release said.
Keeping the above perspective in mind, "The Gregorian Alumni Society" has been formed under the leadership of Yousuf Rahman (Babu), the celebrated former national cricketer and a graduate of the class of 1967. The application of TGAS has been formally accepted by the Registrar's office of the Joint Stock Companies and Firms, Government of Bangladesh.
An ad-hoc committee has been formed and submitted along with the M&AOA (Memorandum and Articles of Association) to the above named Government Agency. This committee shall run the affairs of the TGAS under the terms and conditions as stipulated in the M&AOA.
The following is the list of Officers and members of the Ad-Hoc Committee. Additional members with due responsibilities will be added to this list as and when the TGAS becomes fully operational.

In addition to the above, several prominent Gregorians are to be included in the Advisory Council of the TGAS. Mohammed Ziauddin, Ambassador at Large to the Hon'ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh; Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun; Muhammed Ali Rumee, former Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank; Tanveer Muzhar Islam; Marghub Morshed; Osman Ali Khan; Barrister Ajmalul Hossain; Abul Hasan Chowdhury; economist Debapriya Bhattacharya are some names that are being talked about.
It may be mentioned that The Gregorian Association of North America (GNA) had its first Alumni event on July 30 in Washington DC that was attended by nearly 200 Gregorians from USA, Canada and Bangladesh. The formation and the vision of TGAS were formally introduced to the Alumni during the event by the President designate of TGAS, Yousuf Rahman.
TGAS has, in collaboration with the newly formed Gregorian Association of North America (GNA), pledged to actively work towards the betterment of its Alma Mater. Upon consultation with the Principal of the school, Bro. Leo Pereira, priority projects are being seriously considered for review and implementation. Task forces are being prepared accordingly to ensure that these projects become realities.
An online membership enrollment system is being set up, thereby making it easy for Gregorians from all over the world to join the organization.
It is expected that the TGAS will be announcing very shortly a detailed plan of activities concerning the alumni and the school. When asked about the vision of TGAS, Yousuf Rahman opined, "Unlike the past, the resurrected TGAS is not going to be a one-time event manager. Our team feels, and rightfully so, that it is time to give back to the school and that's what we plan to do."
