Long meeting with Myanmar envoy
Bangladesh today held a long talk with visiting Myanmar envoy, which very likely had the Rohingya issue in major focus and ended without a press talk.
Bangladesh Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali sat with U Kyaw Tin, the visiting special envoy of Myanmar and also its minister of state for foreign affairs, for two hours.
The meeting began around 2:00pm at state guest house and ended at 4:00pm. Neither side spoke to the waiting media after the meeting ended.
Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque and other high officials from different ministries attended the meeting.
Bangladesh's pivotal issue with Myanmar is the influx of Rohingyas following persecution in the Rakhine state of the neighbouring country. Of late, there was also an incident of Myanmar opening fire on Bangladeshis at border.
