India's foreign secy to visit Dhaka Wednesday
India's Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar will arrive in Dhaka on Wednesday on a two-day official visit to meet the government high officials to discuss Bangladesh's security and other bilateral issues.
He is arriving as a special envoy of Indian government and is expected to carry a message from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to PM Sheikh Hasina over the ongoing security situation in Bangladesh, diplomatic sources said today.
Jaishankar is coming in the backdrop of recent attacks and killings taking place in Bangladesh.
He will hold meeting with his Bangladesh counterpart Shahidul Haque during his visit.
According to the diplomatic source, Dhaka is considering his visit as "significant", which is taking place soon after US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Nisha Desai Biswal visited the city following the brutal murder of a local staff of USAID and LGBT activist Xulhaz Mannan and his friend Mahbub Tonoy.
During her two-day visit from May 4, Biswal met Harsh Vardhan Shringla, high commissioner of India to Bangladesh, and discussed Bangladesh's security issues.
