Bangladeshi killed in Malaysia landslide

A Bangladeshi migrant worker was killed in a landslide triggered by a torrential rainfall in Cameron Highlands of Malaysia early yesterday.
The deceased Md Belal Mridha, 28, was a worker of a flower farm at Kuala Terla in the area, according to Malaysian news website The Star.
The landslide took place next to a makeshift barn at the foot of a hill, said Hasadid A Hamid, deputy superintendent of Cameron Highlands Police.
Based on witnesses' accounts, he said Belal came to the farm Tuesday to meet his relative and had slept in the barn.
"The landslide occurred due to incessant rain around 3:00am. Belal's relative managed to escape and pleaded for help from a colleague to save the victim's life," said the police official.
His body was sent to Hospital Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom in the area for a post-mortem.
Contacted to Sayedul Islam, labour counsellor at Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur told The Daily Star that they were yet to get any information in this regard.
They will contact with the Malaysian officials to know details, he added.
Around four lakh Bangladeshi migrants are now working in different sectors in Malaysia legally.
