Thakurgaon MP tests Covid-19 positive

Dabirul Islam, lawmaker from Thakurgaon-2 constituency and also chairman of the Standing Committee on Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, has tested positive for coronavirus.

His sample was collected on Friday and the test result came out last night, said Civil Surgeon Mahfuzur Rahman Sarker.

His condition is stable and he is receiving treatment at his Baliadangi residence, our Thakurgaon correspondent reports, quoting the civil surgeon.

Dabirul, who discharged his duty as district unit president of Awami League from 2014-2019, was elected lawmaker seven times from his constituency.

Earlier, his assistant private secretary Shamim Hossain was diagnosed with Covid-19, sources said.

Fifteen people tested coronavirus positive yesterday in the district, taking the total number of infected in Thakurgaon to 810. Of them, 14 patients died of the disease so far, according to CS office sources.
