Apple App Store 2022
TikTok topped the free apps chart once again.

Apple recently revealed the most downloaded apps and games of 2022, as well as selected 16 apps and games for their annual App Store Awards. 

According to Apple, the three most downloaded free apps this year were TikTok, YouTube and WhatsApp. Last year, the top three were TikTok, YouTube and Instagram.

5. Google Maps
6. Google
7. Gmail
8. BeReal
9. Facebook
10. Cash App

In the top paid charts for apps, HotSchedules, Procreate Pocket and The Wonder Weeks ranked in the top 3 spots.

Top free games of 2022 in the Apple App Store

1. Wordle
2. Subway Surfers
3. Roblox
4. Stumble Guys
5. Coloring Match
6. Count Masters
7. Fishdom
8. Call of Duty: Mobile
9. Parking Jam 3D
10. Text or Die

In the top paid charts for games, Minecraft, Heads Up! and Bloons TD 6 ranked in the top 3 spots.

Like last year, the selection for Apple App Awards 2022 was done internally by the Apple App Store editorial team.

According to Apple CEO Tim Cook, this year's winners "reimagined our experiences with apps that delivered fresh, thoughtful and genuine perspectives". 

Among the 16 apps that were selected as winners in different categories, BeReal was chosen as the iPhone App of the Year, and Apex Legends Mobile was chosen as the iPhone Game of the Year.
