Nurturing a modern academic ecosystem

Eastern University

Higher education is undergoing a profound transformation as universities across the world redefine their roles in preparing graduates for an increasingly technology-driven and interconnected future. In Bangladesh, Eastern University has emerged as one of the institutions embracing this transformation by combining academic excellence, research, innovation, industry engagement, and global collaboration within a modern learning environment.

Academic Modernization

Established in 2003 under the Private University Act, Eastern University has steadily grown into one of the country’s respected private universities, offering programmes across Business Administration, Engineering and Technology, Law, Pharmacy, English, and the Social Sciences. Its permanent campus in Ashulia reflects the university’s long-term commitment to providing an integrated academic environment where learning extends beyond the classroom. Eastern University continues to modernise its academic programmes through Outcome-Based Education (OBE), digital learning platforms, Learning Management Systems (LMS), and the gradual integration of AI-assisted learning tools.

Research, Innovation, and Global Partnerships

Research and innovation remain central to the university’s academic mission. The university recently co-organised the 7th International Conference on Integrated Sciences (ICIS 2025) with the International Open University (IOU), The Gambia, under the theme “Integrating Artificial Intelligence in Science, Business, and Islamic Paradigms.” Eastern University has also continued to strengthen its international outlook through academic partnerships with universities across Asia, Europe, North America, and Africa. Through international internship programmes, several Eastern University students have completed fully funded internships in Japan, with at least one participant successfully transitioning into full-time employment there.

Eastern University’s emphasis on academic excellence is perhaps most visible in the achievements of its students. In 2026, the university’s Moot Court Team emerged as the National Champion of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, defeating the University of Dhaka in the final round. With this victory, Eastern University once again earned the opportunity to represent Bangladesh at the international rounds of the world’s largest and most prestigious moot court competition.

Industry Connections, and Accreditation

Eastern University supports academic quality through modern learning facilities, career development initiatives, and industry partnerships like the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB). Notably, its BSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering program has received BAETE accreditation.

As Bangladesh’s higher education landscape continues to evolve, universities are increasingly expected to produce graduates who can think critically, adapt quickly, and contribute meaningfully to society. Eastern University continues to pursue this vision by integrating quality teaching, research, innovation, industry collaboration, international engagement, and student development within a modern academic ecosystem.
