Crack Platoon Transport Service starts off tomorrow

A free transport service for caregivers, including doctors and nurses, will start operating from April 1 so that medical service providers can go to hospitals from their homes in a fast and convenient way, as Bangladesh copes with the coronavirus pandemic.

A number of busses and microbuses have been arranged to pick up doctors and nurses from their homes and drop them off at their workplaces in three shifts at 8 am, 2 pm and 8 pm in one day, in the capital. Apart from the scheduled shuttle services, transport will also be provided for doctors and nurses in case of emergency calls in Dhaka.

Under the supervision of the Health Directorate, the NGO, The Earth Society and the vehicle IT solution firm, Bondstein Technologies, jointly took the initiative with support from DBL Pharmaceuticals Ltd and Dhaka Hub of Global Shapers. They have also collaborated with Combating Corona for any necessary volunteer support.

"The name 'Crack Platoon Transport Service' was inspired by the famous guerrilla unit, Crack Platoon, that conducted a number of heroic commando operations in Dhaka during the Liberation War of Bangladesh," explains Mohammad Sadequl Arefeen, Co-Founder, The Earth Society. "Transport is a major concern for healthcare providers at this time of crisis and we intend to help them out. So far, more than 250 doctors have registered for our service. Our online registration is underway and our call centre is available to our users around the clock. We will also disinfect the busses and microbuses diligently."

A coordination meeting was held earlier at the Health Directorate with the Director General of the Health Directorate as the chair. Director General Professor Dr Abul Kalam Azad and Senior Vice-President of Swadhinata Chikitshok Parishad Dr Md Jamal Uddin Chowdhury was at the inauguration of the service, after the meeting. Managing Director of DBL Group, M A Jabbar, Co-Founder Mohammad Sadequl Arefeen and Executive Director Mohammad Mamun Mia from The Earth Society and Director of Bondstein Technologies, Zafir Shafiq Chowdhury, were present.
