‘Ashoka Young Changemakers/ Everyone A Changemaker’ movement launched
Ashoka, in collaboration with BRAC reimagined Bangladesh's future with an 'Everyone a Changemaker' society SIR FAZLE HASAN ABED ASHOKA YOUNG CHANGEMAKERS. The launching programme was held at BRAC Centre, recently.
Ashoka has over 90 Fellows in Bangladesh, who have been supported through the 'Ashoka Fellowship'. Ashoka's Fellows in Bangladesh include Shykh Seraj, Runa Khan, Ananya Raihan, Ejaj Ahmed, Sajida Rahman, Sebastian Groh and the late Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, amongst others.
Bangladesh is the fifth country out of Ashoka's over 90 country networks to unveil the movement after countries like USA, Brazil, Indonesia and India.
15 teens from across Bangladesh working on impactful social ideas for the global platform are the candidates selected for this programme. Ashoka Young Changemakers (changemakers under the age of 20) are the equivalent of Ashoka Fellows in their generation. Yashveer Singh, Global Executive Director, Ashoka Young Changemakers said, "We are living in a truly historic moment, in a world that is defined by change. The organisation believes to thrive in this new world, every young person needs to grow up as a changemaker - a person who steps up to solve problems for the good of all. It is critical for the future of Bangladesh to have an ecosystem where young people could lead change from early on in life."
Each of these Young Changemakers have identified their change making powers. Now they want everyone else to have this power, while they continue to grow theirs. The young candidates will be exposed to a global platform where they shall be given access to co-leadership boot camps, media partnerships, public speaking platforms, exposure visits, strategic allies and more opportunities to groom themselves to be the influencers of youth culture in Bangladesh.
The jury board includes Munni Saha, Head, ATN News, Sonia Bashir Kabir, Vice Chair, UN Tech Bank and Founder, SBK Tech Ventures, Zafar Sobhan, Editor in Chief, Dhaka Tribune, Rokia Afzal Rahman, President, Bangladesh Federation of Women Entrepreneurs, Kazal Rashid Shafin, Editor, Khola Kagoj, KAM Morshed, Director, BRAC and David Bonbright, Leadership Group Member, Ashoka Global.
The fifteen changemaker candidates are Maimuna Fariah Jahan, Nibrasul Alam, Tanjin Tanha, Muhammad Abrar, Sanjidul Islam, Ahona Anjum, Labby Ahsan, Arafat Samir, Abul Bashar Rahman, Tazreen Mehrav, Parvez Hasan, SK Shoaibur, Ridhi Jahan Dola, Shahazadi Marium Binte Shahan and Sheikh Naeem Hasan Moon.
The organisation intends to support this community of Sir Fazle Hasan Abed Ashoka Young Changemakers in influencing other stakeholders of the society such as schools, parents and the government so that every child in Bangladesh can grow as a changemaker. This is very important for the future of these young people and also of Bangladesh as a whole.
