Dhaka Dynamites stay perfect
Dhaka Dynamites remained invincible in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League as Shakib Al Hasan and his troops registered a fourth consecutive win, this time over Sylhet Sixers by 32 runs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.
Despite Taskin Ahmed's three wickets in the 15th over of the innings which put the brakes on Dhaka's innings, they still managed to post a challenging total of 173 for seven. That proved to be enough as Nicholas Pooran waged a lone battle for Sylhet, who could only reach 141 for nine in 20 overs to fall to a second defeat in three games.
After Dhaka opted to bat, Sylhet removed dangerous Afghan batsman Hazratullah Zazai (4) early on through Sohail Tanveer, but Sunil Narine and Rony Talukdar then added 67 runs for the second wicket.
Narine was dismissed after scoring a 21-ball 25 and Rony then paired with skipper Shakib and continued to punish the Sylhet bowlers. Rony went on to register his maiden T20 fifty before being dismissed by Afif Hossain after scoring 58 off 34 balls with five fours and three sixes.
Shakib departed for 23 and since then Sylhet made a brilliant comeback with the ball courtesy of Taskin, who was on a hattrick after removing the dangerous West Indies duo of Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard. Although he was unable to complete the hattrick, he did manage to dismiss in-form Shuvagata Hom with the fifth ball of the 15th over.
It was then Dhaka's two local cricketers, Mohammad Naim and Nurul Hasan, who added 46 runs from the last five overs to take them to the challenging total. Naim remained not out on 25 off 23 balls while Nurul remained unbeaten on 18 off 10 balls.
In reply, Sylhet lost skipper David Warner for seven off Shakib's bowling and since then never looked to challenge Dhaka and kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
Apart from Pooran's 43-ball 72, which included nine sixes and a four, none of the other Sylhet batsman were able to score significantly and barely put up a fight.
Pacer Rubel Hossain bagged three while Shakib and Shuvagta took two wickets for Dhaka.
