Shakib expected to play after minor scare
There was a minor scare for Bangladesh as T20I and Test captain Shakib Al Hasan had to leave practice after a delivery hit him on the toe. Coach Steve Rhodes later said that the skipper would be fine for Monday's first T20I against West Indies in Sylhet.
Shakib did not even limp much as he walked to the dressing room to put the impacted toe on ice. Rhodes's appearance at the pre-match press conference, usually attended by captains, caused a bit of a flutter, but the coach said that Shakib should be fine for tomorrow's encounter.
"He's fine. He got a little knock on the foot from Saifuddin, who bowled an inswinging yorker to him. Good ball actually, hit him on the toe," Rhodes said. "He is going to be fine, he is smiling and happy. He's icing his foot at the moment. I'd be very surprised if he wakes up tomorrow and there are any issues to be perfectly honest. He got a bit grumpy (laughs) and sent me to replace him at the press conference -- I didn't mind."
Shakib's presence is going to be integral as T20Is are the format in which West Indies have the best chance of winning. The T20 world champions will be eager to win the three-match series after humbling 2-0 and 2-1 defeats in the Test and ODI legs of their tour respectively.
The match will start on Monday at the Sylhet International Stadium at 12:30pm, with the second and third matches to take place in Mirpur on December 20 and 22.
