Saif and Nazmul put Central in command
Central Zone openers Saif Hassan and Nazmul Hossain Shanto strung together a blistering 116-run partnership on the third day to put the side on top of their Bangladesh Cricket League fifth round match against North Zone at the Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi yesterday.
It was the same old story for North as their struggles with the bat continued as they lost their remaining five wickets after adding just 54 runs to be bundled out on a paltry 146-run total.
Coming in to bat, Central's Saif and Nazmul did justice to their bowlers efforts, adding over 100 runs together before the latter fell prey to a Naeem Islam delivery on 67 runs off 95 balls. Saif remained unbeaten on 66 to see his side take a three-run lead with nine wickets remaining going into the final day.
In the day's other match between East Zone and South Zone at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogura, East batsman Yasir Ali was dismissed on the very first ball of the day, failing to add to his 70-run knock from the previous day. After that, East kept on losing wickets at regular intervals before eventually declaring on 262 runs for the loss of eight wickets.
In reply South suffered an early blow, losing opener Anamul Haque within the first five overs after adding just seven runs. However, Fazle Mahmud remained unbeaten with his 137-ball 57-run knock as South finished the day on 136 runs for three wickets on the board.
