Nazmul, Sabbir star in Abahani’s big-margin win
Left-handed batsman Nazmul Hossain Shanto, who was the Dhaka Premier League's top-scorer last season, found some form during 83-run knock against Uttara Sporting Club as Abahani won by a massive 189 runs at Fatullah today. Sabbir Rahman also played a stormy knock to propel last year's champions towards a big total before the bowlers put in a good performance to bowl Uttara out for just 96.
Batting first, Abahani posted 285 for six with courtesy of Shanto's knock. The number 2 batsman contributed in two big partnerships for the second and third wicket opener Jahurul Islam (45 off 82) and Mosaddek Hossain (64 off 65) during his own 84-ball 83 laced with seven fours and two sixes.
Following his wicket, Sabbir Rahman took the reins and hit a blistering 35-ball 61 with four fours and four sixes as Abahani finished on a high. Rubel Hossain then bagged three wickets for just 16 runs in his five overs while Sabbir was awarded the player-of-the-match after he followed up his innings with two wickets for four runs.
In another DPL match at Dhaka's Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Brothers Union defeated Sheikh Jamal by seven wickets.
