Mithun, Mushy to be kept under observation following injury scares
More alarming news for Bangladesh followed after their eight-wicket thumping at the hands of hosts New Zealand in the second of the three-match ODI series at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch today.
Khaled Masud, the team manager for the tour, informed that Tigers' batsman Mohammad Mithun and wicketkeeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim were to be kept under observation for 48 hours due to injury scares.
Mithun had pulled a hamstring in today's game while taking a quick single and Mushfiqur's rib pain -- which he first felt during the Asia Cup in September 2018 -- has resurfaced. Mushfiqur had sustained side strain and a wrist injury on February 10th during Bangladesh's warm-up match against New Zealand XI.
"Mithun pulled his hamstring while taking a quick single and after that he did not go out to field today. According to advice from the physio, he will be kept under observation for 48 hours. However, we hope he will be fine after resting but whether he will play in the next game depends on his recovery," said Masud.
The team manager also informed about Mushfiqur's condition.
"Mushfiqur felt his old rib injury today but still he did keep wickets. We are also keeping him under observation for 48 hours and further updates about them will follow within one or two days."
Bangladesh will play the third and final ODI of the tour on February 20 in Dunedin.
