Mahmudullah, Boult fined by ICC
The International Cricket Council (ICC) fined Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah and New Zealand fast bowler Trent Boult 10 and 15 per cent of their match fees respectively for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct in separate incidents during the second ODI in Christchurch on Saturday.
A press release posted on ICC's website (https://www.icc-cricket.com/media-releases/1056578) on Sunday stated that Mahmudullah was found guilty of breaching Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to "abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an international match," while Boult was found to have violated Article 2.3 which deals with "use of an audible obscenity during an international match."
Mahmudullah, when leaving the ground after being given out during Saturday's match, struck the picket fence with his bat. In addition, one demerit point each has been added to the disciplinary records of both players, for whom it was their first offence since the introduction of the revised Code in September 2016.
According to the press release, both players pleaded guilty to the offences and accepted the sanctions proposed by match referee Steve Bernard and, as such, there was no need for formal hearings.
With their eight-wicket defeat in the second ODI, which followed an eight-wicket loss in the fitst match in Napier on February 13, Bangladesh have lost the three-match ODI series. The third ODI will take place in Dunedin on February 20, before the Tigers play a three-Test series against the hosts.
