Gazi, Shinepukur shine in rain
Rain once again interrupted the ongoing Dhaka Premier League as Shinepukur Cricket Club and Gazi Group Cricketers registered wins in curtailed-over matches against Prime Bank Cricket Club and Uttara Sporting Club respectively yesterday.
At the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah, Shinepukur registered a 48-run win over Prime Bank through the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method. Bangladesh Under-19 skipper Towhid Hridoy's 117-ball 83, which included four boundaries and a six, and opener Shadman Islam's 78 were the only two major scores for Shinepukur in their modest 245 for eight in 50 overs.
Medium pacer Ariful Haque bagged three while Al Amin Hossain and Monir Hossain took two wickets each.
After rain halted the game Prime Bank were set a revised target of 149 in 20 overs, but apart from their Indian recruit Abhimanyu Easwaran's 39, none of the batsmen were able to contribute significantly and eventually ended up on 100 for nine in 20 overs.
Pacer Delwar Hossain picked up three and Sabbir Hossain took two for Shinepukur as they registered their third win in eight games while Prime Bank faced their second defeat in the same number of matches.
In the other rain-interrupted match of the day at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Gazi clinched a 49-run win in the D-L-S method over Uttara.
Despite restricting Gazi on 235 for nine in 50 overs, Uttara lost their way with the bat and were eventually all out for 138 runs chasing a revised target of 188 in 33 overs.
Off-spinner Sanjit Saha was the pick of the bowlers for Gazi as he ended up with figures of four for 20 from his seven overs, which included two maidens while Mehedi Hasan and Kamran Ghulam took two wickets each to register a comfortable win at the end.
Earlier, Gazi made a good start after being sent to bat as Myshukur Rahman and Mahedi Hasan added an 81-run opening stand. However, both batsmen were dismissed for 44 and since then, Gazi kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Shamsur Rahman's 51 was the highest score for the batting side.
Medium pacer Abdur Rashid bagged three wickets while Asaduzzaman Payel, Anisul Islam and Sheikh Humayun took two wickets each for Uttara.
With seven wins in eight games Rupganj remained in second position in the points table, behind Abahani Limited on net run rate, while Uttara with just two wins are struggling at second from bottom.
