‘Every 50-50 decision went Bangladesh’s way’

West Indies captain Carlos Brathwaite said at the post-match press conference that every '50-50 decisions' from the ODI onwards went Bangladesh's way.

West Indies were frustrated when a no-ball had been called in the final ball off the fourth over bowled by Oshane Thomas, that allowed Liton Das to continue after he was holed out at mid-off. Drama ensued with Brathwaite talking to the match referee. TV replays later showed that the ball was legitimate and the bowler had not overstepped.

"I went to the match referee after the second game after I was here for the ODIs. Every 50-50 decision went Bangladesh's way. I never ever want to accuse someone of cheating and I stopped short of that because they (match officials) are professionals too and I don't think there was any intention to be biased, for lack of a better word, a cheat," Brathwaite said of the officiating which hampered the game.

"However, I just made my point clear to the match referee that from the ODIs every 50-50 decision went against us. A point needed to be made since they are young guys and can't ask them to fight our fight. If anything comes back, it needs to be on me," he added indicating that if his actions bring sanctions, he should be the one on the receiving end.

Bangladesh also got the rub of the green during a poor officiating sequence in the third ODI at Sylhet, where Rovman's Powell's wicket was contested by Brathwaite because Bangladesh had more fielders on the leg side than is allowed. The fielding team was unaware of the mistake while the referees too remained oblivious until West Indies protested.

"Over the years, we haven't been getting the calls, the 50-50s and I had to make a stand. Things were passionate but it was respectful," he concluded.
