Comilla outplay Dhaka despite Shakib's milestone
Dhaka Dynamites could not bounce back after their loss against Chittagong Vikings on Monday as they succumbed to a seven-run loss again today against Comilla Victorians at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. Before that, Dhaka skipper Shakib Al Hasan became the first player to take reached 100 wickets in the BPL when he scalped the wicket of Shamshur Rahman in the 15th over of the game.
Being sent in to bat, Comilla lost two of their top-order batsmen early as opener Anamul Haque could only score one and skipper Imrul Kayes saw his stumps rattled by a Rubel Hossain delivery after scoring just seven. However, Tamim Iqbal and local boy Shamsur Rahman strung together a 51-run third-wicket partnership before the former was dismissed after scoring 34 off 29 balls. Comilla was left in a spot of bother when Dhaka skipper Shakib picked up Shahid Afridi and Shamsur in the 15th over, but a late cameo of 26 runs off 12 balls from all-rounder Thisara Perera saw the side end with a decent 153-run total.
In the chase, Dhaka received an early blow as they lost opener Hazratullah Zazai in the very first over. Dhaka kept losing wickets at regular intervals after that and was reeling on 50 for four at one stage. However, Shakib and all-rounder Andre Russell put on a 62-run fifth-wicket partnership in just 36 balls before the latter was dismissed after authoring a fiery 24-ball 46 that saw five sixes and two boundaries. The hopes of Dhaka bouncing back with a win after their loss yesterday against Chittagong were doused when captain Shakib returned to the pavilion in the 16th over. With the tail exposed, it was just a matter of time for Comilla to win as Dhaka eventually fell short.
