NZ clinch ODI series following another Guptill ton
New Zealand romped to victory by eight wickets in the second ODI at Christchurch to clinch the ODI series 2-0 against Bangladesh following another ton from opener Martin Guptill.
Martin Guptill played a special knock , hitting his 16th ODI ton as Tigers slumped to a 2-0 series defeat against New Zealand at Christchurch with the third ODI still to come. The total of 226 was inadequate but Guptill's 88-ball 118 made it look very small indeed. Having kept the Tigers at bay with a ton in the first ODI, Guptill truly showed his destructive form as Tigers were blown away in the face of his tremendous uprising.
Skipper Kane Williamson came in to bat at the fall of the first wicket and he stuck around, combining in a 143-run partnership with Guptill for the second wicket. Mustafizur Rahman bagged two wickets for the Tigers in an otherwise meek bowling performance dwarfed by Guptill's ton. The opener hit 14 fours and four sixes during his 88-ball stay at the crease. Taylor (21*) and Williamson (65* off 86) ensured victory after Guptill's dismissal as New Zealand saw off the chase with eight wickets and 13.5 overs to spare.
Earlier, Mohammad Mithun's 57 and Sabbir Ahmed's 43 saw Bangladesh post 226 all-out after being sent into bat.
Having struggled once again early on in the innings -- losing Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das at the top of the innings, Bangladesh at least ensured that they did not lose too many wickets in the Powerplay. Soumya once again showed promise but then fell to a loose shot before Tigers got themselves into real trouble, losing key wickets of Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad.
It was once again Mohammad Mithun, who went about consolidating the innings. He put on 75 for the sixth wicket with Sabbir Ahmed (43). Mithun however caused himself an injury while running a quick single. He struck a few boundaries to reach his fifty but did not last long after that. Sabbir played a good hand, batting responsibly but Tigers lost their way after the sixth-wicket stand was broken. Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Sabbir both departed at a crucial stage, trying to imporve the run-rate. It was Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (13) and Mustafizur Rahman's (5*) ninth-wicket partnership, which allowed Bangladesh to reach 226 before captain Mashrafe fell in the last over.
Fizz bags Guptill after ton
Mustafizur Rahman bagged his second wicket, removing dangerman Martin Guptill but not before the right-hander had taken the Kiwis to the doorstep of victory. A Fizz bouncer got big on him and the batsman produced a top edge which was taken by Liton Das at mid-wicket. New Zealand are 196 for 2 after 30 overs.
Guptill hits blistering ton
Martin Guptill hits his second ton in this series as New Zealand march towards victory. Guptill and Kane Williamson also notched the 100 partnership for the second wicket. Guptill's ton today was of a different flavour compared to his ton in the first ODI, the only similarity being that he did not give Bangladesh a sniff once again. He reached his 16th ODI ton in 76 balls with 11 fours and four sixes. New Zealand are 162/1 after 25 overs. Williamson is batting on 36.
NZ riding on Guptill's stormy knock
New Zealand are making Bangladesh's moderate total look very small as Martin Guptill continues punishing the bowlers. He and Kane Willamson have managed to keep Bangladesh at bay so far. Having it a ton in the first ODI, Guptill is on his way to hitting another ton.

Martin Guptill has looked in excellent touch and he powered his way to a 33-ball 50, hitting six fours and two sixes. He is fast taking the game away from the Tigers. New Zealand are 74/1 after 13 overs.
End of 10 overs, NZ 59/1
Despite the loss of Nicholls, New Zealand have started brightly thanks to a breezy knock from Martin Guptill, who had struck an unbeaten ton in the first ODI. Captain Kane Williamson joins Guptill in the middle.

Mithun's innings was laced with seven fours and a six. He was showing signs of a hamstring issue and lost his cool as a quicker one from Astle goes through and disturbed his stumps. Bangladesh lose their sixth wicket with the score on 168.
Mithun, Sabbir put on fifty partnership

Play restarts after rain delay
The covers are off and play restarts. It was a very short rain delay. Tamim Iqbal has started slowly here, scoring five off 21. Survival in his mind.
Rain follows Liton's departure
The rain has started once again and the covers are coming back on. The players go off as Bangladesh are 10/1 after 4.1 overs. The rain does not look too heavy. Play will hopefully not be interrupted by this light drizzle.
Some early success for Trent Boult! Liton Das is caught superbly by a running Lockie Ferguson! However, the rain has just started to come down, the players seeking refuge in the pavilion... @BCBtigers 10/1 | 4.1 overs

Liton falls early
3.1 - Ban 5/1, Liton Das c Ferguson b Boult 1 (4b 0x4 0x6) SR: 25.00
After Tamim Iqbal survived a close shave in the preivious over, Liton Das perishes trying to clear the infield off the bowling of Trent Boult. Soumya Sarkar comes in.
Liton was looking to take the attack this time. Charges down the wicket and ball perhaps catches him a little high on the bat. Lockie Ferguson takes an excellent catch running back.
Tamim and Liton face the music
Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das are out in the open. Matt Henry has bowled the first over of the day. It is a very hard pitch and the ball has hurried on to the batsman. Bangladesh need to get their survival mode on to get by the first couple of overs.
Trent Boult bowls a maiden in the second over. Tamim plays six dot balls on the trot. Ball is moving quite sharply after pitch. Nice away movement beats Tamim in the last ball of the over. Bangladesh 1/0 after 2 overs.
Toss
New Zealand have won the toss and elected to bowl first in the chilly overcast conditions at Christchurch against Bangladesh.
It is bad news for Tigers, who are already struggling with the pace and bounce being extracted from the pitch by the Kiwi fast bowlers. Kane Willamson informed that New Zealand made one change from the first ODI. Bangladesh have surprisingly gone in with an unchanged lineup.
Kane Williamson: An early start so good to bowl here. One change: Todd Astle comes in for Mitchell Santner
Mashrafe Mortaza: We'd have liked to bowl first as well, still looks like a good track to bat on. I think our bowlers have been doing alright, it's our batsmen today who have to do well. We have the same team.
Teams:
New Zealand: 1 Martin Guptill, 2 Henry Nicholls, 3 Kane Williamson (capt), 4 Ross Taylor, 5 Tom Latham (wk), 6 Jimmy Neesham, 7 Colin de Grandhomme, Todd Astle, 9 Lockie Ferguson, 10 Matt Henry, 11 Trent Boult
Bangladesh: 1 Tamim Iqbal, 2 Liton Das, 3 Soumya Sarkar, 4 Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), 5 Mohammad Mithun, 6 Mahmudullah, 7 Sabbir Rahman, 8 Mohammad Saifuddin, 9 Mehedi Hasan Miraz, 10 Mashrafe Mortaza (capt), 11 Mustafizur Rahman
Covers come off after rain
Rain was in the forecast and it apparently could have delayed start of the match at Christchurch as Bangladesh take on New Zealand in the second ODI today. But the rain eventually did not delay proceedings.
It's a bit chilly out in the middle today. Good conditions for seam bowling. The New Zealand seamers will be licking their lips if they get to bowl first in overcast conditions.
Reportedly, the covers came off and it would be a 11am start. The players have started their warmups.
The kind of movement we like to see! Covers are being lifted, the players starting to warm-up. ODI #2 still set for an 11am start at this stage #NZvBAN pic.twitter.com/nXcmu1X3Z0BLACKCAPS (@BLACKCAPS) February 15, 2019
