Vietnam Embassy celebrates Lunar New Year 2021
The Embassy of Vietnam in Dhaka organised a gala programme to celebrate the Lunar New Year 2021.
The event was held at the Chancery of the Embassy in Dhaka's Gulshan area on February 12.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Pham Viet Chien, conveyed warm wishes to the Vietnamese community and the country's close friends in Bangladesh on the "Year of the Buffalo".
In his statement on the occasion, Ambassador Viet Chien said the previous Year of the Mouse in 2020 was truly a difficult and uncertain time due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
"On this Tet (New Year) holiday, many Vietnamese people cannot return to the homeland, to reunite with their family. In the pandemic situation, the Embassy, Vietnamese community and Bangladeshi friends did not have many chances to meet each other like in previous years. So the gathering today is very special and meaningful to my wife and me, to the Embassy's staff and everyone present here. It is an opportunity for us to wish each other the best and share the hope of a more peaceful, prosperous and happier new year," he said.
"In 2021, Government and people of Bangladesh will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and continue to celebrate the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. We, Vietnamese people congratulate our Bangladeshi friends, wishing the Government of Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina achieve many new successes, bring prosperity and happiness to the Bangladeshi people, and successfully realise the vision to build 'Sonar Bangla'," Ambassador Viet Chien said.
"As Vietnamese people, every one of us is extremely proud of our country. With a spirit of solidarity and consensus, Vietnam overcame all difficulties during the past year and achieved success that other countries in the world would admire."
Mentioning Vietnam's success in implementing the "dual goal" of effectively preventing, controlling the Covid-19 pandemic and recovering, developing the economy, taking care of the lives of the people so that no one is left behind, Ambassador Viet Chien said, "Up to now, the country has only about 2,000 cases of infection, of which only 35 deaths, a very small number compared to the pandemic consequences caused to the world."
"In the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, many economies in the world experienced an economic recession, but Vietnam was one of the few countries with positive growth, reaching nearly 3% and trade turnover reaching USD 540 billion, in which trade surplus was nearly USD 20 billion. Vietnam still remains a reliable place for economic cooperation and businesses, especially foreign direct investment. So far, over 33,000 FDI projects with around USD 385 billion have been operated effectively in Vietnam," he said.
He mentioned the achievements of the country under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
In the 35 years of implementing the policy of "Doi Moi" and international integration, the country has obtained tremendous achievements, to the extent that Vietnam has never enjoyed such fortune, potential, status and prestige as of today, the envoy said citing the General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong.
Referring to the contributions of the Vietnamese community in Bangladesh, Ambassador Viet Chien said, "The great achievements of our country over the past period had the companionship and important contributions of the Vietnamese people abroad, including each of us present here today, who are living, working, or studying in Bangladesh."
The Communist Party and the Government of Vietnam highly appreciate the contributions made by Vietnamese people abroad and always try to take any means to support and protect Vietnamese citizens, especially in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic, he also said.
"The Embassy has been and will continue to work closely with domestic agencies and Bangladeshi agencies to promptly assist and protect Vietnamese citizens in Bangladesh," he added.
The envoy also said that the Bangladesh government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has implemented many wise policies and timely measures to control the spread of the coronavirus.
Mentioning that the Covid-19 pandemic situation can still continue to be complicated in the year of 2021, the envoy said, "I hope the Vietnamese community in Bangladesh will be optimistic for a peaceful new year, but not to be subjective. Vietnamese people should keep complying with the safety guidelines to protect yourselves, your families and the community. I do hope the Vietnamese community in Bangladesh will also maintain the tradition of unity, intimacy, sharing and loving."
"On behalf of the Embassy, my wife and I would like to wish Happy New Year to the Vietnamese community and Bangladeshi friends, with good health, happiness and success in the New Year," the Vietnam envoy also said.
"I hope to continue to receive support and assistance from the Vietnamese community, the Bangladeshi organisations and friends so that the Embassy can better fulfill duties and promote solidarity, friendship and cooperation between the two countries, two governments and between people of Vietnam and Bangladesh," he added.
