Rami Malek bags in shock nomination for 'Bohemian Rhapsody'
Disrupted shoots, phony starts, cast members stepping down, are only a few of the hurdles the production team had to overcome in creating this masterpiece. It took an awfully long and grueling time to get Bohemian Rhapsody over the line, through all the gloom, Rami was the anchor behind the film’s success. The Mr. Robot star was tasked with playing the role of Queen front man, Freddie Mercury. The magnitude of the task at hand for Rami was immense, as he had to portray the role of a larger-than-life rock icon, whose impression is eternallyembedded into the minds and souls of millions across the world.
In preparation for this role, Rami went deep into the archaeological background of Freddie Mercury's life; this included screening performances, reading biographies, shredding through old photos and notes and interrogating Queen cofounders Brian May and Roger Taylor, who have served as producers on the film. The hard work has indeed paid off, with Malek being nominated for his incredible performance in this year's Best Actor category at the Oscars. But, turns out that Rami had no clue of the events that were ongoing. In an interview he said; “I didn't realize it was today, because I try never to ask anybody when these moments are. I'm in Paris working…. Then the telephone started fluttering away, and it's a beautiful snowy day, so there's something quite magical the way it happened. It's just something you never expect to happen; it's like a distant dream that actors have and hope for to some degree. But it's never really felt in the realm of possibilities — it's a pretty joyous occasion to say the least!”
