Moniruzzaman Palash - Celebrating Life 2018 2nd Prize Winner - Lyrics Contest
I think everyone really enjoys receiving an award. That is not any different in my case. The truth is, awards make people very happy, and I became very excited after receiving this award. I had some confidence in the lyrics I wrote. I thought I might win. I had that much confidence in my writing. I feel a sense of responsibility now, after Daily Star and Standard Chartered handed me such a huge award, I realize that I must do something better than this now. If I write more lyrics after this, it must be better than this. The thing is, winning an award increases your responsibilities. I have had this passion since my childhood. I write poems and paint since I was a kid. I even studied at Charukola. My entire childhood was wrapped around culture. When I was in school, a song written by me was used by some prominent musicians in my area to raise funds to help people that were affected by a cyclone that happened during that time. I then realized how important lyrics were; it could help people a lot. The main philosophy behind this was inspired by all the neglected structures, and all the structures created during the Mughal and other empires. I kept those topics in my head when I wrote this. I thought that us Bengalis were at the top of the world at one point. When people from other civilizations were still learning to make houses, we were making mansions. This was the philosophy that inspired me. I never thought one could write songs about architectural structures. I am grateful to Daily Star for giving us the opportunity to write a song like this, and allowed us to read many beautiful lyrics. I am already the lyricist of Bangladesh TV and Radio's lyricist. I will always write poems and songs, and it is immersed within my soul. So, as long as I am alive, I will be writing lyrics.
