Abir Chatterjee on Jaya
The caliber of Jaya Ahsan as an actor isn't really something that needs to be explained to the general audience. What separates her from other actors is her sheer selflessness. She will look after every nitty-gritty detail in the job that she does, and will do over a hundred takes if she feels that it is necessary for the role. At the end of a shot, she tends to ask the director, “Are you happy?” When we were shooting for Bishorjon, Jaya had brought a trunk full of props from Dhaka! I can assure you that no other actor of her stature and fame will bother doing this. There's another story I'd like to share. Bishorjon's story was set in Bangladesh, but it was shot in India. The rituals for Hindu marriages from Dhaka to Kolkata tend to vary, and Jaya had kept this in mind. She brought a 'topor' (headdress) from Dhaka just to make it look more authentic! Sometimes, I call her 'didi' or 'apa' just to set her off. She absolutely hates it! (Laughs) I have the utmost respect for her, but I am baffled to see some news in the media portraying us as lovers. I think when you are successful on the silver screen as a duo it is fun for people to fantasize things. Anyhow, I wish Jaya the best of luck, and hope to work with her for many more years in the future.
